It has now been established: no Nottinghill carnival weekend will be complete without the annual Hip Hop World all-white exclusive ‘partea’.
Now in its fourth year, the gig returned to the Steam Bar (at London Hilton Paddington hotel), and taught Londonders how to party again. Hosting a mix of London residents and visiting Nigerians, the all night do- as has now become characteristic of the organisers- featured urbane Nigerian music non-stop, and a night-long supply of expensive wine and cocktails.
The idea, according to CEO Ayo Animashaun, ‘‘is to engage our readers and viewers in the UK, and also provide an opportunity for industry members from Nigeria and the UK to relax and mix’’
Digging deep to fish out music from way back, and effortlessly serving the best of today’s sound, the house DJ, and visiting DJ Jimmy JATT sent guests on a dancing spree; causing even the most reluctant dancers to get up and groove.
The gig has held at different London venues since 2006, and the organisers are now hoping to move it round different continents from next year.
