DORA TAKES THE FUN TO NIGERIAN KIDS WITH NATIONAL SCHOOL TOUR

Nigerian primary school kids can win a special visit to their school by children’s TV heroine Dora the Explorer thanks to Nickelodeon.

From September 2012, global entertainment phenomenon Dora and her monkey pal Boots will visit 5 schools across the country in Dora’s Back To School Tour - entertaining children and teachers with fun sing-alongs.

Dora’s Back To School Tour is part of the Access Early Savers Financial Literacy for Kids campaign, which aims to teach children 4-9 about financial literacy.

The tour follows the Dora Fiesta in Lagos in December last year, which was a huge, sell-out success, attended by over 4,000 adoring Dora fans. The event prompted hundreds of requests from kids and parents to have Dora the Explorer visit their schools.

To apply for Dora the Explorer to visit your school, register for the Early Savers Financial Literacy for Kids campaign at www.nickelodeonafrica.com or and give a brief justification of why you think Dora and Boots should come to visit their school.

In Nigeria, Dora the Explorer can be seen on Nickelodeon (DStv Channel 305) every weekday at 04:00 WAT, 09:00 WAT and 09:25 WAT and on weekends at 05:00 WAT, 07:30 WAT and 07:55 WAT. Dora also appears on STV every Saturday morning at 08:00 WAT.

ABOUT DORA THE EXPLORER

Dora the Explorer is a play-along, animated adventure series starring Dora, a seven-year-old Latina heroine whose adventures take place in an imaginative, tropical world filled with jungles, beaches and rainforests. Dora explores her world just as pre-schoolers do every day, and the show is designed to actively engage its audience in an interactive quest using a variety of learning techniques.

In every episode, Dora and Boots invite the audience to participate in an exciting adventure, where each step of their journey consists of a problem or puzzle that Dora and the audience must think their way through in order to solve the next problem. Dora is proudly bilingual and uses her knowledge of English and Spanish to communicate with her friends, overcome obstacles and reach her goals.

In each episode, Dora teaches a Spanish word or phrase to the viewers and then asks them to use it to solve a problem and forge ahead. Ultimately, Dora and her best friend, Boots, triumph, and the story always ends with a “We Did It!” anthem.

The brainchild of Chris Gifford, Valerie Walsh and Eric Weiner, Dora the Explorer debuted on TV on Nickelodeon in the USA in 2000.
