Even the most critical pundits have declared that Africa's king of R&B, Dare Art Alade's “Love like a Movie” Concert which held on Sunday February 17 at the Convention Centre of the Eko Hotel and Suites was one of the best shows to be staged in Nigeria. The best, actually.
The precision with which each act blended seamlessly into the other, the exceptional quality of creativity of our Nigerian artistes who also performed with Darey as well as the foreign acts invited as well as the orderliness and precision at each major point of the event have set a bar that very many artistes and event promoters are now wondering how to reach.
The event was formally opened by the red carpet and was graced by some of Nigeria's biggest celebrities, industry giants as well as high profile guests spanning every sector.
Some of the guests who attended include Larry Annetts, CMO MTN Nigeria, Onari Duke, Mr Nicolaas Vervelde, Managing Director/Chief Executive, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Mr Walter Drenth, Marketing Director Nigerian Breweries Plc, Elohor Aisien, Mo Abudu, Nkiru Anumudu and Tony Agenmonmen. Other guests include Ramsey Nouah, Segun Arinze, Emeka Ike, Chidi Mokeme, Charles Novia. Celebrities such as Dr Sid, Linda Ikeji, Toolz, Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi, Annie Macaulay, Toke Makinwa, Yvonne Vixen Ekwere, Omowunmi Akinnifesi,Tiwa Savage, Zaina, Mo Eazy, Seyi Shay, Tosyn Bucknor, Weird MC, Chidi Mokeme and more were also spotted.
Platinum guests were treated to an exclusive pre-event dinner, with comedian Basket Mouth as compere and special performances of, “Be your girl” by Waje, and “Endless Love” by Tiwa Savage.
After the pre-event dinner, the show immediately opened with an introduction by Kim Kardashian, the event's special guest who flew in a night before to be a part of the historic concert.
Guests got a sneak peak of the awesome ride they were in for as Darey took the stage from an elevated platform and guests couldn’t figure out if it was an illusion or if he was really on the stage. Darey went ahead to stun guests with a medley of his popular songs such as Belly, Escalade, Ba ni Kidi, Not the Girl, The Way You Are, ending with the futuristic Asiko.
Guests were serenaded by Darey’s rendition of Chris de Burg’s “Lady in Red”, Lois Armstrong’s, “A Wonderful World”, “You’ll be Mine” and other love songs. Darey and Waje also rendered an amazing duet with “Endless Love” and “A Whole New World.”
Other performers include 2face in Carry Dey Go, Ice prince and Mo’ Eazy in Asiko,. A quartet of Darey, Banky W, Praiz, Timi Dakolo and Tolu took guests down memory lane with their outstanding delivery of “I’ll Make Love to You” and “End of the Road.”
A teary-eyed Darey also performed “My Way” as a special tribute to Goldie Harvey, while Zaina performed her two hit singles Lo Lo La and Totally Yours.
Occasional gasps of surprise were heard as guests were thrilled by the acrobatic performances by international troupe Farfadais that featured throughout the show.
Rounding off the show, huge balloons were dispersed into the audience, bringing out the playful side in the generally high profile audience as they kept tossing the balloons around the hall, some people even took more than one balloon home!
Undoubtedly, it can be said that Darey fulfilled his promise of delivering an exceptional and unprecedented experience.zzzz
