MICHELLE OBAMA INSPIRES AFRICAN LEADERS ON MTV BASE MEETS.

 First Lady of the United States of America, Michelle Obama (@Flotus) is the latest opinion former to participate in MTV Base’s ground-breaking pan-African TV series, MTV Base Meets…(MTV Base, DStv Channel 322, 19 July @ 17:00 CAT).

Four potential South African leaders of tomorrow were hand-picked to meet Mrs Obama in a special edition ofMTV Base Meets Michelle Obama.  They included Grade 10 student Mirriam KgokaneAubrey Baloyi (Grade 12), 16 year old Teboho Tenyane and Grade 11 student Keamogetswe Rakgoadi (17) from Johannesburg.

Taped at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown, Johannesburg, on 29 June during the Obama’s state visit to South Africa, MTV Base Meets Michelle Obama will premiere to 52 territories across sub-Saharan African on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) on Friday 19 July @ 17.00 CAT.

The panelists’ discussion with Mrs Obama was viewed by hundreds of teens and young people from across South Africa at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown, Johannesburg, while others joined the conversation from L.A., Kansas City, New York City and Houston via a Google+ Hangout. 

A relaxed Mrs Obama spoke passionately about education, leadership and dreaming big dreams, while revealing an easy-going style and infectious sense of humour.  Mrs Obama also talked about the importance of role models in young people’s lives, citing President Mandela as one of her own inspirations and describing Madiba’s release from prison as “one of the most important moments in the history of civilization.”
MTV Base VJ Sizwe Dhlomo MC-ed the event, fielding questions from around the world. R&B superstar John Legend joined students in Los Angeles to participate in the event while singer and actress Victoria Justice, ambassador for girl empowerment campaign Girl Up, beamed in from Houston.
