The Enugu edition of Amstel Malta Showtime would certainly remain an unforgettable experience in the minds of the beautiful people of the coal city who came out in their numbers to the Golden Royale Hall, yesterday.
The first of its kind concert drama tagged “The Rush” was as explosive as it could get with various artistic displays by ballerinas, jugglers, singers, actors, dancers, fire eaters, instrumentalists, comedians e.t.c put together to deliver an exceptional theatrical performance.
The drama which was themed around a young man’s journey to success featured the selected five talents from the auditions which includes a harmonica player, a dancer, a singer/voice-over artist, a guitarist and a drama group of six.
These talents starred alongside renowned Nigerian entertainers, Sound Sultan, Phyno, Gordons, art director, Ice Nweke, celebrated dancer, Ukalina, lead actor, Bobby and a host of others and also took home with them cash prizes.
In a very interesting twist, 2 other talents had the chance of performing alongside the entertainers. A rapper who did well but not well enough to make it to the top 5, was given an opportunity as an opening act of Sound Sultan’s performance while a comedian, who also didn’t make it to the top 5, got the chance of performing with Gordons.
One of the 5 talents, a 22 year-old dancer, who almost made it to the top three position in the 2nd season of Showtime, couldn't hold back his joy. According to him "when 4 of the 5 selected talents were called out and it was just one more talent to go, I practically started shaking on my seat because I wanted this opportunity very badly. I flew in from Lagos for this because I won't be around in September. And then I heard my number. It was the best news I had gotten in a long while. This experience has been a blessing to me. I can't thank Amstel Malta enough for this opportunity and the mentoring sessions were extremely helpful" , he said
Sound Sultan also expressed his pleasure at how the talents were able to perfect their roles within two days of rehearsals. “ Myself, Ice and Gordons mentored these talents within just two days and to our greatest satisfaction they played their roles excellently well, that you would almost not believe they had just two days to rehearse”, he said.
According to Amstel Malta Brand Manager, Hannatu Ageni-Yusuf, Amstel malta is committed to encouraging young talents in every way possible. “ The coal city marvelled us with it's very warm reception and a lot of brilliant talents came out for the auditions making us very pleased at the level of enthusiasm displayed. Amstel Malta is a brand that believes you should never give up on your journey to success and will keep encouraging young nigerians to be the best they can be in every way possible, which is why we have given these talents the rare opportunity to be mentored directly by celebrated nigerian artists who are at the top of their games” said Hannatu.
The final leg of the event series will hold in Lagos on the 18th of September at the Unilag Sports Centre while the auditions will hold on the 14th and 15th of September at the Unilag main auditorium to select the 5 talents who will star alongside Sound Sultan, Phyno, Gordons, Ice Nweke and others.
