Wizkid while being a guest at the media parley for the Hennessy Artistry held at the Black House Media office on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, disclosed how he made his monster hit track, Jaiye Jaiye which he described as his most challenging song.
According to him, the choice of Afro beat act, Femi Kuti was so he could make the song more appealing for his fans, especially the ones that are Afro beat inclined.
He said, ‘When I made jaiye jaiye, I didn’t know people were ready to accept the song, so I needed something to make it really special. I called Femi Kuti for a collaboration and almost immediately, he agreed. I was shocked. I had to go back to the studio that night to re-do the song so he wouldn’t be disappointed. We recorded it the next day and it was a successful’.
Asked how his sophomore album, Ayo, is doing since its release, he replied,
‘Everybody is loving the tracks and are discovering new songs on the album even though I had put out about seven of the songs on it. When I was making this album, I was trying to make a conscious decision not to change my style because people were beginning to think I would change my style since I started rolling with international artistes’
The album was allegedly leaked on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 and in a space of 18 hours, topped the ‘Top Album’ list and was listed 99 in the top 100 albums for all categories.
