The Nigerian
Society of Engineers (NSE) has announced that the 2015 Engineering Conference
will hold from Monday, November 16, 2015 to Friday November 20, 2015. The
event, which will hold at the International Culture and Event Centre in Akure,
Ondo State is themed “National Integrated
Infrastructure Mater Plan (NIIMP) 2014: Strategies For Implementation”.
Following on from
last year's conference in Abuja which doubled as the World Engineering
Conference on Sustainable Infrastructure (WECSI 2014), the 2015 conference,
which is being held in collaboration with the National Planning Commission
(NPC) aims to examine avenues through which the NIIMP can be effectively
implemented so as to catalyze national growth and economic development.
Speaking about the
aims of the 2015 conference, NSE Vice President and Conference Planning
committee Chair, Engr. Margaret Oguntala stated,
“There is no gainsaying
that the wellbeing and capacity of human capital can only be enhanced through
adequate provision of social infrastructure such as health, education and
conducive living environments. It is regrettable that we have already lost a
chunk of investments to neighbouring countries on account of decaying
infrastructure.
It is against this
backdrop that this conference has been organized in partnership with the
National Planning Commission to provide the government with a graphic picture
of the need to step up its policies geared toward expanding our infrastructure
base. Efforts towards building new roads, rehabilitation of the railways, and
resuscitation and modernization of our refineries are all crucial.”
She further went on
to say,
“The conference planning
committee has noted that the Global Infrastructure Facility of the World Bank
which was launched last year was a response to infrastructure deficits in
developing countries. We also note that the lack of critical infrastructure
comes at economic and social costs, resulting in losses in investments and
massive job cuts suffered by developing nations recently.
For the 2015 National
Engineering Conference, we have carefully put together themes and sub-themes
for the discourses that will exhaustively dwell on preferring strategies for
implementation of the National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan as well as
other subject matters in the value chain of infrastructural development.”
The conference will
feature keynote addresses from President/CEO, CG-LA Infrastructure Inc., USA,
Norman F. Anderson and President ABUAD, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN.
Also speaking at
the conference will be the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun
Mimiko, CON.
Confirmed partners
and sponsors for the 2015 conference include Ondo State Government, Afe
Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Flour Mills Nigeria Plc., Oando Energy,
