High School Musical is coming live on Stage “To discover Nigeria’s Troy and Gabriella” Kidztrust CEO Sheila Okonji Ashinze told news men early this week. And in a bid to achieve this, Kidztrust has employed the services of prolific chorographer Kaffy, acclaimed Nollywood director Tarilla Thompson and one of Nollywood’s most celebrated acts Stella Damasus to train the young men and women that’ll get cast for the show.

“This is a landmark event, because we are using an entirely Nigerian cast and crew. We had an option to fly in the cast and crew from the US, but I’m about talent discovery and development. So I thought why not come home and search for young Nigerian talents who can play the roles properly and end up building a career for themselves”

Most Nigerian youngsters are familiar with the story of Troy, a popular high school basketball star, and Gabriella, a shy, academically gifted newcomer who discover they share a passion for singing. When they sign up together to audition for the lead roles in the school musical it threatens East High’s rigid social order and sends their peers into uproar.

In a desperate attempt to maintain the status quo, the "jocks", the "brainiacs" and even the drama club regulars, are soon hatching convoluted plots to separate the pair and keep them off stage. However, by defying expectations and taking a chance on their dreams, the couple inspires other students to go public with some surprising hidden talent of their own.

The high octane Nigerian debut scheduled to hold between March and May 2010 will run through Auditions, callbacks, final selections, Rehearsals, training all the way to the show premier which is scheduled for May 27.

‘So far, the response has been good, a lot of people have opened their Hi Fi account in First Bank, and the forms are rolling in’ Murna Odeh a representative of Kidztrust disclosed.

Sponsored by First Bank, at the end of the search the lucky candidates that are crowned Nigeria’s Troy and Gabriella would be taken to the United Kingdom, where they would embark on a life changing theatre arts programme to embark on a career journey in Music, dance, Theatre and the Entertainment Industry
