NIGERIAN IDOL UNVEIL JUDGES AND HOST

Optima Media Group today let out the news we’ve all been waiting for: The first-ever Nigerian Idol is ready to roll, with all deals and roles signed and sealed.
After what seemed like an endless wait, following months of silence from the producers, we can now reliably inform you that singer, dancer, producer and mentor Jeffrey Daniel of the Shalamar fame will be one of the judges for Nigerian Idol. And Daniel, who invented the ‘moonwalk’ and was Michael Jackson’s trainer and mentor, is not alone. He’s joined by amazing singer, dancer, songwriter and actor Yinka Davies who herself has influenced many of today’s biggest singers, including bestseller Asa. Also sitting as judge on the highly-anticipated show alongside Daniels and Davies is Audu Maikori – a lawyer and entertainment entrepreneur. He is the CEO of Chocolate City, one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising record labels. Maikori won the highly-coveted British Council IYMEY Award in 2007, and is largely responsible for the success of Nigeria’s biggest hip hop act MI
‘We’re excited to have these three outstanding and distinguished talents as our judges, and I’m particularly glad that this will finally put to rest, all the speculations we’ve had to deal with, concerning the judges for Nigerian Idol’, Project Manager Chichi Nwoko says.
Meanwhile, telecoms company Etisalat, at a star-studded news conference on Tuesday, announced their sponsorship of Nigerian Idol. Chief Commercial Officer Wael Ammar told reporters “From the onset we have assured our consumers that we intend not only to be their preferred telecoms operator but also their partner for life. Our desire is to enable them achieve their dreams and aspirations. The sponsorship of Nigerian Idol is one of the many ways we choose to empower the youth of our nation.”
Etisalat has a robust relationship with entertainment, and many still remember the signature TVC by singer Banky W which ushered the company into the Nigerian market.
‘We’re happy to have Etisalat on board, and I believe that together we will deliver Nigeria’s next international music superstar; a true talent worthy of all the accolades; someone we can refine and export to the world as a special gift from Nigeria’ Optima CEO Rotimi Pedro says.
The show’s presenter has also been announced. She is Yemisi Fajimolu (Misi). A Lagos-based radio presenter, Misi will usher TV audiences through auditions, to the show proper- through evictions all the way to the finals
“I am already getting shivers down my spine about Nigerian Idol. I get to go for all auditions, and then we’d return back to Lagos with the 100 finalists. I can’t wait” The international studies graduate from the university of Buckingham said at the press conference after Nwoko introduced her.
Nigerian Idol kicks off in October with auditions in Enugu, Calabar, Lagos and Abuja.
