LAGOS AGOG FOR NIGERIAN ENTERTAINMENT TODAY’S SECOND ANNIVERSARY


In celebration of the second anniversary of Nigerian Entertainment Today newspapers, Industry Nite, the weekly platform for showcasing talent, networking and engagement hosted a special event in honour of Nigeria’s premiere entertainment newspaper.

The star-studded event which attracted the crème de la crème of the Nigerian Entertainment industry, media practitioners and corporate executives held at the Oriental Hotel Lekki on Wednesday April 25, 2012.
“I feel really honored that the whole industry came out to support us” NET founder Ayeni Adekunle says.

Before the Industry Nite gig, Ayeni had earlier in the day shared the success story of NET with the creative community at The British Council, in Ikoyi, Lagos. The April edition of the British Council’s Creative Sessions, facilitated by the Creative Entrepreneur’s Association of Nigeria, and was dedicated to the second anniversary of NET. 

Right in the same room where he unsuccessfully tried to win a British Council's creative young entrepreneurs' award for two years, Ayeni presented a case study on the success of Nigerian Entertainment Today sharing his experience as a journalist with Encomium, Punch and Thisday newspapers which eventually culminated into NET.

‘We did the intellectual, academic stuff at British Council in the morning, and partied in the evening’ Ayeni jokingly says. But the NET team did really party – with a wild gig hosted by Tee A and Larry D. Guests included Nollywood superstars- Nse Ikpe- Etim, Kunle Afolayan and Annie Macaulay, Comedians- Jedi and Basket Mouth, Soccer star- Jay Jay Okocha and OAP Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi, Kayla and Tosyn Bucknor.

The Music industry was not left behind as MI, Darey, Majek Fashek, Ice prince, Mike Aremu, Lami, Kel, Sound Sultan, Omawumi, Waje, Azadus, Iyanya, Praiz, Muma Gee, KSB, Kween, Lara George and Baba Dee graced the event. Executives- Kenny Ogungbe, Abisoye Fagade, Kelvin Orifa, Osaze Ebueku, Eric Idiahi, Sam Onyemelukwe, Steve Babaeko, Jide Adediran and Segun Demuren were also present.

Other guests included Sheila of BBA, Steve Ayorinde, Efe Omorogbe, Deji Popoola, Toni Kan and Jibola Olubiyi. The night delivered buoyant energy from performers Iyanya, Skales, Mo’eazy, Praiz, Dammy Krane and Mr. Kay. The party atmosphere peaked with 2Face performing cuts from his new album “Away and Beyond”.

NET, which clocked two on April 26, 2012, was founded by media entrepreneur Ayeni Adekunle. Before establishing NET, Ayeni had been a journalist with Encomium, THISDAY and The PUNCH.


The newspaper circulated nationally as a weekly,with other platforms including a popular website www.thenetng.comas well as a mobile service.
