EiE Nigeria Introduces The Peoples' Debate Ahead Of 2015 Elections!

... Hosts Voter Education Concerts in Five Major Nigerian Cities.

Ahead of the elections in February, advocacy group, Enough Is Enough Nigeria is organising a Presidential and Governorship election debate series called 'The Peoples' Debate'

"The Peoples' Debate", hosted by EIE Nigeria in partnership with GenVoices, GEMSTONE and the Nigerian Global Shapers Hubs (Lagos, Abuja, Calabar, Ibadan & Kano) will hold in Lagos, Plateau, Kaduna, Imo, Rivers, Taraba as well as a Presidential debate in Abuja.

The debate series has been created to position voters at the centre of the democratic process by reinforcing the narrative that elections and governance are about the people. It also aims to provide voters with the information required to select credible candidates and hold them accountable once in office.

In addition to The Peoples' Debate, EIE Nigeria has announced that there will also be four more voter education concerts in Kaduna, Jos, Owerri and Lagos after the first one held in Port-Harcourt on December 12, 2014.

Some of the confirmed performers at these concerts include 2Face, MI, Ice Prince, Yemi Alade, Burna Boy, Reminisce among many other surprise acts. The concerts also promise guest appearances from A list celebrities.
These concerts will use music to educate voters on the need to participate in the election process. 15-minute interludes will also be used during the shows to promote the RSVP campaign. Entry will be free to those with valid voter's cards while others will pay a token fee.

Through its pre-election and post-election voter education strategies under its flagship RSVP Campaign, EIE Nigeria hopes to increase the participation of young people between 18 – 35 (62.5% of those registered to vote in 2011) in Nigeria's growing democracy.

EIE coalition includes The Future Project; Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (PIN); Education as a Vaccine (EVA); Kudirat Initiative for Democracy (KIND); LYNX Nigeria, BudgIT, RISE Networks; Chocolate City Group and EME.

The key focus of the group remains the RSVP initiative which aims to get young people to Register to vote, Select credible candidates, Vote and Protect their votes using tools such as the Revoda mobile application, with the aim to get more young people to participate in the democratic process.
