AJ, CHITO LEAVE IDOLS

“AJ, you have all a label wants in an artiste, but you can’t afford to lose concentration now. This is the final leg, or you’d leave this competition” that were Audu’s words after AJ’s performance last week, and then true to his words, the young singer was one of the contestants to leave the competition on Thursday February 10, 2011
Last week, to the surprise of ardent followers, Ola and Nina were evicted from the Etisalat sponsored show. But this week, AJ and Chito had the lowest votes and were automatically up for eviction.
As has become the tradition, these contestants were given another chance to sing the song they performed last week, while their fellow finalists cried their eyes out.
This is the second time AJ and Chito will be evicted from Nigerian Idol! There were two of the three departed contestants brought back into the show with the Wild Card.
To bid her fellow contestants and the fans farewell, AJ performed Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison while Chito performed Into the Groove by Madonna.
23 year old, Ajumoke Nwaeze has had a shot at fame before. As a matter of fact she has had more than a shot of fame. In 2008 she and 5 other guys won that year’s edition of the talent competition known as Star Quest under the group name of Diamondz. Striving to create a solo identity, AJ, an indigene of Rivers State, left her group in 2010 much to the disapproval of her group members to take part in the first ever Nigerian Idol.
Chito a.k.a Queen MODA [Most Outstanding Daughter Alive] and Word Smith 1 is perhaps the competition’s most colorful and vibrant contestant. The self-confessed tom boy (who has a lot of scars) says that she is more of a rapper than a singer. She tells a very interesting tale of how her mother was in labour for 15 hours when she wanted to give birth to her and how her parents were praying for a boy instead of girl. She attributes her tom-boy personality to the prayers of her parents.
So far, four contestants have now been evicted, as it continues to show to viewers and the remaining contestants that Nigerian Idol is like a jungle and only those with the highest votes will survive. Ola, Nina, AJ and Chito are out of the competition, leaving nine finalists to battle for the grand prize.
With Nigerian Idol being its first season, the franchise show is stepping several notches higher as there are speculations that the winner will drive home a brand new car in addition to the grand prize of 7.5 million Naira and a record deal with Sony BMG.
Nigerian Idol is sponsored by Etisalat in association with Pepsi and Royal Exchange.
