TechCabal, Africa’s largest tech online publication, is
announcing the inaugural edition of AfricaBeta, in partnership with WeChat. The
event is scheduled to hold on the 3rd of October, 2015 in Lagos, Nigeria.
AfricaBeta is a conference that will explore the ideas and
technologies that are shaping the future of the African continent. The aim is
to showcase the companies and individuals that are pushing the frontier,
influencing how Africans experience a life in which technology has become
essential.
This first edition, tagged Chat
3.0, will focus on how chat applications, and messaging are moving beyond
communications into the realms of business and commerce.
In addition to robust expositions by experts in the field, one
of the highlights of the event will be demonstrations of outstanding value
propositions that emerge from the WeChat ideathon. The ideathon is a parallel
experience within Africabeta in which startups and developers who apply stand
to gain not only early deployment access to the WeChat platform but also
go-to-market support for their products and services.
Speaking on the upcoming event and the partnership with
TechCabal, Mr. Idemudia Dima-Okojie, WeChat’s Regional Manager for West Africa
said,
“WeChat is happy to be
part of this event with TechCabal. TechCabal is the authoritative source for
startups and technology news and analysis in Nigeria and we’re happy to
collaborate with them.”
“The future of messaging
in Africa is mobile, hyperlocal and immersive; And at WeChat, we are at the forefront
of this. We’re creating a platform that goes beyond messaging, a platform that
provides a gamut of functionality ranging from service delivery &
transactions, product discovery, customer relationship management, ecommerce,
media distribution and much more. We hope startups will take advantage of the
platform to turbocharge their business; And that conversation begins at
Africabeta."
Bankole Oluwafemi, Editor in Chief of TechCabal also said,
“Africabeta is an event
aimed at unearthing and celebrating the people, technologies and companies that
will define the next phase of Africa. Technology is driving a lot of change in
African society in many ways – politics, commerce, urban planning, sex and
relationships.... Africabeta is the forum where we’ll capture those
conversations.”
Entry to Africabeta is free, but attendance will be secured by
registration. Full event details are available at Africabeta.co.
