DAREY, NAETO C LEAD CHANNEL O NOMINATIONS
Singers Nneka, Darey Art Alade and rapper Naeto C will lead the Nigerian contingent to this year’s edition of the Channel O Music Video awards.
The list of nominees announced during a press conference at Melrose Arch, Johannesburg on Tuesday July 14, shows German-based singer Nneka leading with three nominations (Best new comer, Best female video and best African west) while Storm Records rapper Naeto C is up for two (Best male Video and video of the year).
Darey Art Alade is in contention for best Male video and Best R&B video.
Other Nigerian acts hoping to pick up the prestigious Channel O plaque this year include: Sasha (best female video), the Mo Hits crew (Best duo/group), Psquare (best duo/group), Ikechukwu (best Africa west) and J.Martins (best Africa west).
Nigeria has an impressive 19 nominations in nine categories.
Other contenders include: 9ice (best Africa west), 2face (best R&B video), Kelly Hansome (best Afropop), Steel (best Afropop) and G-Xploits (best R&B video).
The 100% voting awards will hold on October 29 at Carnival city, Gauteng.
Nigeria has over the years, dominated the awards, in terms of nominations and eventual winnings. Last year, Nigeria won five of the 13 awards, including best male video (Ikechukwu), Best Africa west (MTrill), Best hip hop video (KC Presh), and Video of the Year (Psquare).
